⚠️ Scam Alert: Fraudulent Calls Using City Phone Numbers ⚠️
The Richland Police Department warns residents of an ongoing scam involving calls and messages that display official City of Richland phone numbers through caller ID spoofing.
City personnel will never request Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, gift cards, or money sent through an ATM. They will also never request credit or debit card numbers over the phone for payments.
If you receive a suspicious call, do not provide personal or financial information. Report the call to your phone carrier as spam. If you have shared personal or banking information, contact your bank immediately. If you are unsure whether a call is legitimate, hang up and contact the appropriate City department using an independently verified official phone number.
The City appreciates your patience and cooperation as we address this issue. Please remain vigilant and share this warning with others.

BENEFIT RIDE FOR LT. JAMES ALFORD | OCTOBER 24 🏍️
Join us for a benefit ride in honor of Lt. James Alford as he continues his recovery following a motorcycle wreck.
📍 Meet at the Richland Police Department at 10:30 a.m. Kickstands up at 11 a.m.
🍔 Hamburger plates will be available after the ride, and donations will be accepted. All proceeds will support Lt. Alford’s recovery.

BURN BAN IN EFFECT
A burn ban is in effect for all of Rankin County beginning Thursday, October 15, through Sunday, November 15, 2026, unless lifted earlier.
Due to hot, dry conditions and little to no rain in the forecast, the risk of wildfires is elevated.
🚫 The following are prohibited:
• Burning leaves, brush, trash, or debris
• Campfires and bonfires
Please use caution and follow all burn ban restrictions to help protect our community and prevent wildfires.

FIRE WEATHER WATCH 🔥
The National Weather Service has issued an Elevated (Level 2) Fire Danger alert for portions of Mississippi through Saturday.
Dry conditions and gusty winds can increase the risk of fires spreading quickly. Open burning is discouraged, and any fire that starts may be difficult to control.
Please take precautions:
- Avoid outdoor burning.
- Secure trailer chains to prevent sparks.
- Dispose of cigarettes properly.
- Follow all local burn bans and fire safety guidelines.
⚠️ Gusty winds are expected to worsen fire danger on Friday. Please use extra caution and help keep our community safe!
🏀Youth Basketball & Dance Registration Reminder 🩰
Registration for Richland Youth Basketball and Dance is open through October 31, 2026. Youth basketball registration is $55, and dance registration is $20. Registration fees include a uniform or dance shirt.
Practice begins in December, and games begin in January 2027.
